The first element of Russia's new maritime tactics/strategy in the Black Sea is now clear.
Our ongoing daily monitoring and analysis of the Ukrainian sea corridor operation leads us to believe
that the ballistic missile attacks on the ports of Greater Odesa that damage the ships are NOT episodes, but rather a new strategy aimed at incapacitating the Ukrainian sea corridor.
The ownership of the six vessels damaged in the attacks - one of them, the Greek OPTIMA IMO 9528691, twice), however, is noteworthy:
- All of them are owned or operated by the EU companies: 3 Greek, 1 Latvian, 1 Portugese and 1 Polish;
- while the largest number of vessels in the ports of Greater Odesa overall - 61 (28.5% in September) - is Turkish. Greek shipowners account for only half of that - 36 (16.8% in September)...
- So, it looks like somehow the Turkey-owned ships are being spared...
