Eupatoria joined the European Covenant of Mayors

The decision was taken at the session of the City Council, the Council’s press service reported. Mayor Andrei Danilenko signed the agreement on behalf of the territorial community.

Covenant of Mayors is a mass movement of local and regional authorities united by a voluntary commitment to implement sustainable energy policies on their territories. Having signed the agreement, the local authorities undertake an obligation to ensure noticeable reduction in carbon dioxide emission by 2020 by improving energy efficiency and providing investments in renewable energy sources.

The Covenant of Mayors initiative was launched by the European Commission in 2008. By now, more than 4 thousand cities and towns of the globe are part of the programme. In Ukraine, 28 cities have joined the agreement.
