Number of Syrians in Turkey over 80,000, AFAD says

Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) has announced that there were 80,177 Syrians currently staying in Turkey after fleeing clashes in their country.

In a written statement released September 13, AFAD said that Syrians staying in Turkey were welcomed in Altinozu, Yayladagi, Reyhanli, Apaydin and Karbeyaz towns of the southern province of Hatay, in southern provinces of Sanliurfa (Ceylanpinar), Gaziantep (Islahiye) and Kilis.

AFAD said that Syrian citizens taking shelter in Turkey were provided with lodging, food, health services, security, social activities, education, religious services, translation services and communications.

AFAD said that 1,843 Syrians entered Turkey on September 11 and September 13, and that 189 Syrian returned to Syria on their will, adding that so far, a total of 118,839 entered Turkey and that 38,662 Syrians returned to Syria on their own will.

Currently, 11,536 Syrians are staying in Hatay, 13,325 in Gaziantep province (Nurdagi-Islahiye), 12,541 in Kilis, 28,850 in Sanliurfa province (Ceylanpinar), 10,670 in Kahramanmaras, 2,700 in Osmaniye, AFAD said.

555 Syrians, including 79 companions, are staying in various Turkish hospitals and receiving medical treatment, AFAD said.

Syrians are provided meal three times a day, AFAD also said.
