In the 1nd half of 2012 container turnover via the Black Sea went up only by 4%
The impending second wave of the economic crisis has reduced the rate of container traffic recovery through the Black Sea waters.
This opinion was voiced by participants of an international forum Black Sea Container Summit, which opened in Odessa.
According to the data presented, container turnover through the Black Sea region in the first half of 2012 increased by only 4% compared to the same period in 2011, while the increase for the whole of last year was over 25%.
Current year has seen the decrease in the two leading countries of the basin: Ukraine (about 30% of container transhipment through the Black Sea waters) and Romania (20% respectively). For the first player the fall was 3.7% for the six months, for the second - 2,8%. Compare these to 2011, when Ukraine showed 15% growth and Romania - 21%.
In the opinion of the summit’s participants, the slowdown is caused, above all, by objective reasons - the impending second wave of the economic crisis.
