Moldovan Education Ministry confirms recognition of Transnistrian education diplomas

Diplomas issued by the Transnistrian education institutions, including Bender city, have been recognized in Moldova and abroad since 2004.

The Moldovan Education Ministry announced today that diplomas issued in Transnistria do not impede their holders to continue their studies and to get employed in Moldova. The diplomas issued by the Transnistrian secondary-vocational institutions and universities are valid on the Moldovan territory. Their holders may continue their studies and get employed. The medical, military, public order protection and government security diplomas are an exception. These are regulated vocational training sectors and involve a specific approach to the recognition process all over the world.

The ministry said that these diplomas may be replaced only if their holders decide to leave abroad for study or work. In this case, they would be replaced with the same-type documents approved by the ministry. When the Transnistrian education documents were replaced with others authorized by Moldovan bodies the first were retrieved from the holders.

At the last meeting of the working group for education in August 2012, the officials suggested that the education documents should no longer be retrieved from the applicants. To ensure the legality of this action, the normative framework is to be adjusted in the near future. Authorities believe that there is an opportunity to settle this issue at all levels. This fact was appreciated at the two-plus-five format negotiations in Viena on 12-13 September 2012.
