Romania climbs economic freedom ranking to join the «World’s Most Free»

Romania ranks 36 in the world with a score of 7.41 out of 10 for economic freedom in the latest Fraser report.

The result puts Romania just into the top quartile in the annual report produced by the Fraser Institute. Romania’s position has improved considerably since the last report, when it was ranked 48 out of 141 countries. The report uses data from 2010, the most recent available, and the total number of countries assessed has increased to 144.

Romania’s ranking has improved dramatically in the last 20 years, a pattern typical among the formerly Communist Eastern European States. However, Romania has outperformed most of the region, with Slovakia at number 33 the only other regional state among the «most free». In 1995, Romania was at an all time low for economic freedom, ranking 119 out of 123 countries.
