Lazika construction to be stopped in Georgia
Construction of Lazika will not continue, as stated by Kakha Kaladze, candidate for Minister for Regional Development and Infrastructure of the Georgian Dream coalition, Trend reports.
The official noted that infrastructure projects, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway, will be completed.
Kaladze reported about the first meeting of the working group with the Ministry for Regional Development.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili founded Lazika on the Black Sea coast in September. The president presented a plan for the city to become the central port of Georgia.
Construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway to connect Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey will be completed in late 2012. The railway will be launched at full output in 2013.
The railway corridor will have a capacity of 17 million tons of cargo annually. It will transport 1 million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo annually on the first stage of launch.
