Turkmenistan and Romania to create new Eurasian transportation corridor
Turkmenistan and Romania will create a working group on cooperation in the sphere of transport. Its task will include «detection and recommendation of optimal ways for the Black Sea - Caspian Sea commodities’ transportation corridor, using port advantages of Constanta and Türkmenbaşy».
According to the official Turkmen source, Ashgabat and Bucharest have also decided to analyze and use opportunities for cooperation, offered by the EU Strategy for Danube River region, with the perspective to arrange transport communication between Turkmenistan and Europe via Romania.
These agreements have been reached at high-level negotiations in Ashgabat with participation of the Romanian President Traian Băsescu.
Trend informs that the officials are discussing the formation of the new Eurasian transportation corridor. In particular, Turkmenistan State Sea and River Transport Service is studying the possibility for transportation of cargoes, including the liquefied gas, to Constanta. The delivery route presupposes the use of special containers and goes via the Caspian Sea to Baku, then to Batumi or Poti (Georgia) by railway transport, and then to Romania by sea.
