Moldova and Sweden to further develop economic relations
Moldova’s Prime Minister Vladimir Filat and the Minister of Commerce of Sweden, Ewa Bjorling, have agreed to further develop and strengthen bilateral economic relations.
Premier Filat said during a joint news conference on October 23 that Sweden is a friend of Moldova’s, backing the republic in its Euro-integration and democratization efforts.
«Besides this, Sweden is one of the largest donors to Moldova, with its support reaching approximately 13 million euros per annum. Means are provided for various purposes – support of democracy, energy saving, education, and other. At the Tuesday’s meeting with Minister Ewa Bjorling, which was attended by the representatives of Swedish companies, we discussed the perspectives of economic cooperation between our countries. There are many Swedish companies working in Moldova. Besides direct commercial benefits, they offer indirect benefits as well – transfer of knowledge and experience, models of business running and so forth», said Vladimir Filat.
He voiced confidence that, as a matter of fact, there exist possibilities for developing economic relations between the two countries, but admitted that for this to achieve it is necessary to raise Moldova’s investment attractiveness.
Ewa Bjorling assured that Sweden will be further backing the Republic of Moldova in various fields – country democratization, economic reforms etc.
The minister said she had come to Moldova together with a delegation of Swedish people of business, some of whom have already started businesses in Moldova, while others are interested to learn more investment possibilities here.
In her words, Sweden seeks to not only bring goods or services to Moldova, but also to find solutions to problems faced by the Moldovan population, and the most obvious sphere in this sense is medicine.
Minister Ewa Bjornling said that Sweden is interested in the development of the IT sector, infrastructure development, and in implementing the project «Government without Papers».
Bjorling reaffirmed that Sweden is Moldova’s supporter in the Euro-integration process, and will continue backing the republic in this direction.
