Ukraine imposes complete ban on wheat exports
Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk has confirmed a total ban on wheat export from Ukraine.
Ban on wheat export is introduced beginning with November 15, 2012.
As for feed grains, including barley and maize, earlier Prysyazhnyuk was stating that «no export restrictions will be imposed, on the contrary - we will stimulate.»
According to official data, as of Oct. 18, Ukraine has exported 7.1 mln tons of grain, including 3.57 mln tons of wheat. This year, wheat harvest comprised 15.5 mln tons, while domestic consumption is 12 million tons.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food forecast, this year’s grain harvest in Ukraine will be about 46 million tons, compared to a record 56.7 mln tons in 2011. Experts assess the country's demand for grain at 28.7 million tons.
