Bulgaria is the world’s largest producer of lavender oil
In recent years, Bulgaria managed to leave behind France as the leader in lavender production.
More than 80% of the produced amount goes for export. Lavender flowers are exported to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the U.S. and Japan.
In the last 2-3 years, interest in lavender has been growing, as the price of lavender oil has increased and this has led to an increase in lavender flowers’ price.
This year, conventional lavender oil is sold at 70-80 Euros per kg, biological oil - at 90-100 Euros per kg.
Most suitable regions for growing lavender in Bulgaria are areas between the mountains Sredna Gora and Stara Planina.
