Drought spoiled winter crops in three regions – Kherson, Zaporizhia, and Donetsk
This information has been announced by Nicolay Kulbida, Ukrainian Meteorology Center Director, at his press conference in Kyiv.
Yet he has noted that approximately 90% of all winter crops are in good conditions and ready for wintering.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, as of October 26 winter crops were sown on 8 million hectares, or 98% of the forecast areas. Winter wheat was sown on 6.6 million hectares, rye – 303 thousand hectares, and winter barley – approximately 1.1 million hectares.
As of October 25 winter crops sprouted on 6.4 million hectares (82% of sown areas), including 5.8 million hectares (90.3% of sown areas) in good and satisfactory conditions, 0.6 million hectares (9.7%) in weak and thinned conditions, and 1.4 million hectares of non-emerged seeds.
