Russia welcomes Georgia as CIS member
Mikhail Yevdokimov, director of the first department of CIS states of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that Russia was fine with Georgia returning its CIS membership, RIA Novosti reports.
Georgia quit CIS during the war in August 2008, during presidency of Mikheil Saakashvili. The Georgian Foreign Ministry informed the CIS executive committee about leaving the organization on August 18, 2008. Georgia officially left the CIS in August 2009.
