100-year-old boat found in Prut river

A 100-year boat was discovered in Prut river, near village of Macaresti, Ungheni Raion.

According to the deputy director of the National Archaeological Association, Sergiu Bodean, the boat was noticed as the water level of the river significantly fell, because of the summer drought.

He also said that the boat was located 20 meters far from the river’s bank. It is made of tree trunks, is 5 meters long and 80 centimeters wide.

He said that the needed measures to take the boat out of the river are undertaken now. It is to be transmitted to the Museum of History and Ethnography of Ungheni raion.

«The biggest part of the boat is covered in mud. If it is not removed from the river in due time, it may be destroyed. Taking into account its historical importance, the boat should be preserved in special conditions. We are sure that it will become a tourist attraction, as this is a unique discovery for the country,» Bodean concluded.
