Russian chief sanitary inspector expects Georgian wine to enter market

Russian Chief Sanitary Inspector Gennady Onishchenko said that 8 Georgian companies requesting permits to sell wine in Russia will have their enterprises inspected by Russian specialists, Interfax reports.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Denisov said on November 14 that the sides were ready for practical measures to return Georgian wine to the Russian market.

Russia banned imports of Georgian wine in 2006. Georgia used to export 60 million bottles.

Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said in 2011 that Georgia had exported wine for $40 million before the embargo and increased exports to $70 million in 2011.
