Bulgaria joins UN’s initiative against the death penalty
The death penalty is cruel and inhumane, it violates the human dignity and the fundamental human rights.
Instead of supporting the achievement of justice, which is the purpose of justice, it creates and reinforces violence. This statement came from the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Vesela Cherneva regarding the voluntary statement adopted by the UN General Assembly, which recommends that all member states should abolish the death penalty within two years, reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Unfortunately, there are still countries that carry out the death penalty, but the record high number of countries which supported the declaration of the UN General Assembly is proof that it has no place in democratic societies.
