In the long term Bulgaria wants to adopt the euro, Financial Minister Simeon Djankov said in an interview for German paper Die Zeit.

However, he added that in order for this to happen the new European financial pact must get stronger and strict measures against countries violating the adopted rules must be taken. Bulgaria is also against plans for harmonizing taxes in the EU. According to Minister Djankov, this country needs the current flat tax in order to be able to catch up with other EU Members.
