World ocean level rises by 60% faster than the forecasts – scientists
Residents of the low-lying coastal regions around the world may quite soon encounter the danger of flooding. This is the warning of German scientists, ВВС says.
Using the latest satellite data, researchers from the Potsdam Climate Changes Institute have found that over the last 20 years the ocean level has grown by 3.2 mm a year on average, which is by 60% faster than the UN experts’ forecasts.
The results obtained were presented at the UN conference on the climate changes in Qatar.
Report of the climatologists also states that the average global temperature has risen exactly in accordance with UN forecasts – contrary to skeptics, who believe that the global warming threat is strongly exaggerated.
