Baku hosts 6th International Music Festival of Rostropovich
The Azerbaijani State Philharmonic of Muslim Magomayev opened the 6th International Music Festival of Mstislav Rostropovich, Trend reports.
The festival is held by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Azerbaijani Ministry for Culture and Tourism and the Foundation of Cultural and Humanitarian Programs of M.L. Rostropovich.
Minister for Culture and Tourism Abdulfas Garayev, public figures, notable culture and art officials took part in the opening.
The State Symphonic Orchestra of Uzeir Hajibeyli and violinist Elvin Hoja Haniyev performed at the opening. Works of Oktay Zulfugarov, Gara Garayev and Jan Sibelius were performed.
The festival will continue until December 9 with cello player Enrico Dindo, Italian tenors Marco Berti, Pier Juliacci and soloist of the Bolshoi Theater Badri Maisuradze, Lithuanian chamber orchestra conducted by Sergey Krylov, English Chamber Orchestra, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino conducted by Zubin Meta.
Rostropovich was born in Baku on March 27, 1927. A museum was opened in his house. He died in Moscow on April 27, 2007, and buried at the Novodevichye Graveyard.
