Bulgaria’s population down by 2 million by 2060
By 2060 the population of Bulgaria would shrink by approximately two million people, prognoses of the National Statistical Institute show.
According to evaluations coordinated with EU requirements on the demographic and social economic development of member countries, in Bulgaria there would be 5.3 million Bulgarians compared to 7.3 million registered during the latest census.
By that period for every 100 able bodied Bulgarians (14-65 years of age) there would be 84 non able bodied persons (children below 14 years and adults over 65). The prognosis for the closer 2015 is that for every 100 able bodied Bulgarians there would be 52 persons outside that age group.
