Moldovan GDP records 14-per-cent growth in last three years
Moldova's GDP recorded a 14-per-cent cumulative growth during the last three years. The information was included in a report on the government's activity in 2012, which Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat presented on December 24.
Filat said 2012 was a harsh year for the national economy, as it was hurt by a new wave of the financial-economic crisis and the drought. Filat said these circumstances hindered the enforcement of the initial economic growth forecast. «According to forecasts, the drought will cause a 23.3-per-cent decrease in the global agricultural production in 2012, against the results obtained in 2011. These agricultural losses caused the 2.5-per-cent decrease in the GDP,» Filat said.
On the other hand, the government forecasts an approximate 3,700-thousand-lei medium salary by late 2012, which is approximately 10 per cent more against 2011.
According to the report, the direct foreign investments amounted 3 billion 224 million dollars in September 2012, increasing against 2011. The total amount of investments into the Free Economic Zones increased by 10 per cent on 1 October 2012, against the same period in 2011.
According to the Global Competitiveness Index, Moldova ranks 87th on a 144-position top.
