Gendarmerie units found a painting believed to have been painted by world-renowned Spanish artist Pablo Picasso in an operation conducted in the eastern province of Elazığ on January 22.
According to news reports, the Iğdır Provincial Gendarmerie Command launched an operation based on a tip-off that someone was transferring a valuable painting in order to sell it. Gendarmerie units followed four suspects, who entered Elazığ from Malatya, and stopped them on a bridge.
During their search, they discovered a painting believed to have been painted by Pablo Picasso and named «Harlequin Family» (1905). The police arrested the four individuals who were looking for a buyer for the painting, estimated to cost $10 million.
The painting was sent to the Elazığ Museum Directorate to determine whether the painting is genuine or not.
