Turkey’s Karapinar coal deposits to save electricity
Turkish scientists have fruitfully used four years of exploration at Konya. Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz says that coal deposits at Karapanir contain 1.8 billion tons of coal, allowing the country to save electricity for 30-40 years.
The deposits will exceed electricity output of the Ataturk Dam (2.4 GW) twice. Turkey plans to attract $7-8 billion of investments.
Turkey has about 1.6% (12.4 billion tons) of world brown coal reserves. 3.9 billion tons are under reserve development.
