Netherlands soften position on Bulgaria’s joining Schengen area
Within the framework of his working visit to Holland Bulgarian Minister of the Interior had talks with representative of the administration in Amsterdam on the issue of Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area.
Some time ago the Netherlands vetoed this accession with the argument that Sofia has still not coped with the problems in the judiciary system and the fight against corruption. At the moment Holland is considerably softening its stand on the issue. Dutch Minister of Migration and State Secretary for Security and Justice Fred Teeven voiced the opinion, after his talks with Minister Tsvetanov, that Bulgaria is ready for accession to the zone of free movement of people in the EU.
From this point on the most important step is to conduct consultations with the rest of member countries of the Union. For sure the Netherlands view Bulgaria as a partner, Minister Teeven further added.
