Moldovan, Austrian officials discuss cooperation, business, investments

Austrian businessmen are interested in investing in the countries of the South Eastern Europe, including in Moldova. Thus, a group of Austrian businessmen will take part in an economic mission to Moldova on 4-6 June, the trade councillor of the Bucharest-based Austria Embassy, Rudolf Lukavsky, said at a meeting with the deputy head of the Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Vladimir Didilica.

Rudolf Lukavsky mentioned the positive dynamic of the Moldovan-Austrian trade relations. «There already are companies with Austrian capital in Moldova, which are successfully developing their activity in the field of insurances, leasing, constructions etc. In order to encourage new partnerships, we ask the CCI´s support in the organisation of the above mentioned economic mission and of a business forum in Chisinau,» Lukavsky said.

For his part, Didilica emphasized the CCI’s good cooperation ties with the Austrian Economic Chamber, as well as with other Austrian organizations supporting business. «In November 2012, within an UNDP project, the CCI organized a study visit in Austria to 20 entrepreneurs, including from the Transnistrian region. Also, in order to take over the Austrian experience in business, for 15 years already, the CCI, the Austrian Economic Chamber and the WIFI Economic Development Institute unfold the Moldovan-Austrian project on training and launching bilateral cooperation relations. Over 200 local businessmen have participated in the programme, highly appreciating both the gained knowledge, as well as the practical results. The CCI thanks you for your assistance and assures you of its full support,» Didilica said.

According to the data of the National Statistics Bureau, Moldova’s trade turnover with Austria stood at 140.8 million dollars in 2012, which is up by 43.8 per cent against 2011. The export of Moldovan goods to Austria was estimated to 17.9 million dollars and increased by 43.2 per cent in 2012 against 2011. Meanwhile, the import of Austrian goods to Moldova was of 122.9 million dollars, up by 43.9 per cent against 2011.
