Moldovans to receive higher pensions from 1 April

On March 28, 2013, the Moldovan parliament voted a law providing for a 8.25-per-cent increase in pensions less than 1300 lei, starting with 1 April 2013.

The law had been approved due to the efforts taken by a special parliamentary group, which examined and merged several projects on this subject that were submitted by different parliamentary factions.

According to the law, pensions would be indexed by 6.75 per cent starting with 1 April 2013, whereas indexed pensions amounting to less than 1300 lei would be raised by 8.25 per cent. Moldovan MPs also decided to increase the pensions of the Interior Ministry’s employees by 10.4 per cent.

The law sees that pensioners would also receive financial aid starting with 1 April 2013. Full-pension owners would benefit from a 90-lei aid, whereas people, who paid taxes to the social insurances fund for less than 30 years, would receive a monthly 50-lei aid. Disabled people would also benefit from financial aid.

Almost 87.6 per cent out of the total number of Moldovan pensioners are currently receiving pensions that go below 1300 lei.
