Roma community with lowest education in Bulgaria

The Roma community in Bulgaria has the lowest educational status. Statistics show that out of a total of 113 thousand illiterate people in Bulgaria, 0.5% say they are ethnic Bulgarians.

4.7% identify as Turkish and 11.8% are Roma. Most of the children aged 7-15 who do not go to school are also of Roma origin. Some of the most frequent reasons for dropping out of school is unwillingness of the parents to send their children to school, conflicts in the family, negative attitude towards education among the parents, etc.
