Georgia wants Russia to simplify visa regime for businessmen
Georgian Minister for Agriculture David Kirvalidze said that Georgia asked Russia to simplify the visa regime, RIA Novosti reports.
Special Envoy of the Georgian prime minister Zurab Abashidze is negotiating simplification of the visa regime.
Russia imposed a visa regime for Georgia in late 2000 due to threats of terrorists entering the country through the Pankisi Gorge. Georgians have been receiving visas at the section of Russian interests at the Swiss Embassy in Tbilisi only to visit relatives or in extreme humanitarian cases. Georgia lifted the visa regime for Russia on February 29, 2012.
