Moldovan cabinet holds working meeting on recent events in Security Zone

Interim Prime Minister Iurie Leanca on 27 April held a working cabinet meeting with the participation of the authorities responsible for the situation in the Security Zone, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

During the meeting, the officials reviewed the latest events in the Security Zone, which happened amid the illegal installation of the border checkpoints near Varnita village. The authorities have also established a list of tasks for the near future.

Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov made a short presentation of the situation, saying the efforts taken in cooperation with the international partners and the village’s residents had helped settle down the situation. Acting Interior Minister Dorin Recean confirmed that the four carriages installed by the Transnistrian authorities had been already removed.

The participants in the meeting had regretfully acknowledged that the breakaway Transnistrian region continues to take unilateral actions, which could undermine the conflict’s settlement process and endanger the atmosphere between the two banks of the Dniester River. In this context, Leanca voiced concern, saying the same attitude had been expressed by the international partners involved in the settlement process, with whom he had discussed on 27 April.

The interim prime minister required responsible institutions to rigorously monitor the situation in the region and efficiently coordinate activities. Leanca said it was rather important to maintain an active dialogue with all the participants in the Transnistrian conflict’s settlement as well as to inform the population of the events that are happening in order to prevent incidents and ensure the public stability and order in the region.
