Railway between Svilengrad and Bulgarian-Turkish border to be opened on May 9

The Bulgarian caretaker Premier Marin Raykov and the caretaker Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Kristian Krastev will open on May 9 (the day of Europe) a railway project between the town of Svilengrad and the Bulgarian-Turkish border, financed by the Transport Operational Programme.

The construction contract costs nearly EUR 35 million. The newly constructed railway is entirely electrified and will allow a maximum speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour. A unique rail bridge over Maritsa River, with a total length of 433 meters and a width of nearly 8 meters, was built within the frameworks of this project.
