Chisinau hosts Grigore Vieru International Poetry Festival
Poets, writers, literary critics and translators from Latvia, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine and Moldova met within the fifth issue of the Grigore Vieru International Poetry Festival in Chisinau on May 16.
The festival is intended to develop a Chisinau (Moldova)-Iasi (Romania) cultural dialogue and will be held in Chisinau on 16-17 May and in Iasi on 18-19 May.
Today morning, the Moldovan Academy of Sciences hosted a colloquium entitled «Grigore Vieru, poet al spaţiului românesc» (Grigore Vieru, poet of the Romanian area). May 16 evening, the Organ Hall will host a recital of poems by Grigore Vieru, declaimed by actors Dorel Visan, Eusebiu Stefanescu and Nicolae Jelescu. The Romanian pan flute artist, Gheorghe Zamfir, will perform a recital entitled «Taina care ne apara» (The secrecy that protects us).
On 17 May, flowers will be laid at the bust of Grigore Vieru on the Chisinau-based Romanian Classics Alley. The actors Ninela Caranfil and Nicolae Jelescu, the tenor Mihai Munteanu and the vocal band of the Chisinau-based Grigore Vieru general school will also give performances.
At noon, an exhibition of graphics, posters, photos, manuscripts of the poet Grigore Vieru will be staged at the Ion Creanga National Library for Children.
The great Romanian poet Grigore Vieru died on 18 January 2009, aged 73, due to a tragic road accident. In 1993, Grigore Vieru was elected as member-correspondent of the Romanian Academy.
