700 thousand cubic meters of snow stored in Sochi for the Olympics
The CEO of the «Sochi 2014» Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko has declared that the volume of snow, stored for the Olympics in 2014, amounts to approximately 710 thousand cubic meters.
«These reserves will allow the conduct of the Games under any weather – even less favorable than we had during the last winter season», – Dmitry Chernyshenko has noted.
The lack of snow has been one of the problems during the Sochi tests. According to Dmitry Chernyshenko, to avoid this problem in future, the Committee has developed a program, allowing the storage of snow in reservoirs: «We have developed a program called “Hot snow”, combining several technologies, including the production of snow under positive temperatures. However, we mainly stake on the accumulation of snow from previous winter seasons in special reservoirs and its preservation in summer», Yugopolis informs.
