New Moldovan cabinet members take oath

The members of the new government headed by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca took the oath in front of Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti on MAy 31.

The ministers solemnly swore they would use all their powers and skills in the benefit of Moldova’s prosperity, observe the Constitution and the laws, defend democracy, human fundamental rights and freedoms as well as Moldova's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.

After the investiture, Timofti said citizens should be the priority of this new government.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said the new cabinet of ministers was going to continue Moldova’s modernisation process, which had been launched by the previous government. «There are issues. We are going to focus on economic reforms, ensuring the functionality of state institutions and continue the fight against corruption,» Leanca said.

Before the official oath ceremony, Nicolae Timofti signed a decree appointing the new government based on the parliament’s confidence vote.

A number of 58 Moldovan MPs offered a confidence vote for the new government on 30 May.
