Istanbul Turkey's dearest city in 2012
The Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜIK) revealed the results of its regional purchasing power parity study for 2012 yesterday.
The city of Istanbul had the highest price level with 113.1 whereas the southeastern cities of Siirt, Batman, Mardin and Shirnak had the lowest price level with 94.4, according to the TÜIK study. In that context, price level indices for the region of Istanbul were 13.1 percent higher than the average of Turkey and 19.8 percent higher than the region with the lowest prices.
Istanbul had the highest price level index with 108.0 for the food and non-alcoholic beverages group, whereas the southeastern cities of Gaziantep, Ad?yaman and Kilis had the lowest with 94.7.
The Turkish capital Ankara had the highest price level index with 106.3 in the transportation main group whereas Mardin, Batman, Shirnak and Siirt had the lowest for this group with 91.4, according to the TÜIK study.
In housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels main group, Istanbul also had the highest price level index with 148.5. The region which had the lowest price level index for the same group was the region comprised of Mardin, Batman, Shirnak and Siirt with 86.2.
In hotels, cafes and restaurants Ankara had the highest price level index with 117.2, while the central Anatolian cities of Konya and Karaman had the lowest price level index with 91.2.
