Moldovan, Romanian militaries participate in bilateral peacekeeping military drills
A group of militaries of the National Army and the Romanian Army participate in the Scutul Pacii-2013 (Shield of Peace 2013) bilateral peacekeeping military drill, at the Bulboaca-based military training base on 1-4 July.
According to Colonel Andrei Sevcenco, who is also the leader of the Scutul Pacii-2013 bilateral peacekeeping military drill, exercises are meant to assess operational abilities of the National Army’s military sub-unities to perform peacekeeping missions within a multi-national military troop, in compliance with international standards. “We are currently developing the first phase of the implementation of the assessment concept in the peacekeeping battalion No 22, in compliance with the requirements of the Operational Capabilities Concept (OCC),” Sevcenco said.
The colonel added that 12 assessors of the National Army, participants in various training outside Moldova and two OCC experts are involved in the military drills and monitor the National Army’s militaries by providing them with counselling and teaching them to use the best practices in peacekeeping operations.
More than 150 militaries, who participate in the military drills, will show their skills in almost 25 practical peacekeeping operations in various training places. Peacekeeping troops need to perform missions like, patrolling in the responsibility area, medical evacuation, convoy escorting technique, guarding strategic objectives, interventions in case of attack as well as ensuring the regime at border checkpoints and crossing-points.
The National Army joined the OCC in 2007. This concept represents a collaboration tool within the programme of the Partnership for Peace, which uses western standards to train and assess military sub-unities and Moldova’s availability to participate in multinational peacekeeping missions.
