After spy scandals Russia decided to type secret documents with typewriters
Russian Federal Protective Service has ordered 20 typewriters. The respective order has been placed at the state procurement website.
“After scandals with dissemination of top-secret documents by WikiLeaks, disclosures by Edward Snowden, reports on tapping of Dmitry Medvedev during his visit to G20 summit in London, it has been decided to expand the practice of paper documents’ development”, — a source at the FPS has stated. The Agency has officially refused to comment the typewriters’ procurement.
In addition to the typewriters, as it can be seen from the order, the FPS plans to purchase 600 cartridges, compatible with “Triumph-Adler Twen 180” and “Olympia Comfort” typewriters. The website, dealing with sales of “Triumph-Adler” typewriters, says they allow the development of “quite complex documents”. “It is recommended for organizations for typing of secret documents”, — the device description says.
According to the source at the Ministry of Defense, this agency still uses typewriters for development of secret reports to the Russian Minister of Defense and the President.
