Dubai-based airline ready to operate low-cost flights from Chisinau

Dubai Aviation Corporation, known under the brand Flydubai is planning to start operating low-cost flights from the Chisinau International Airport already this autumn.

This issue was discussed at a meeting between the leadership of the Moldovan Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure and Andrea Catto, Commercial Manager for Europe of FlyDubai Company.  

According to the Ministry of Transport, the participants in the meeting elaborated an agreement on air services that is to be signed at inter-governmental level in the nearest future. The document will ensure the legal basis of the regular flights operated to Chisinau by a company that will be selected in the United Arab Emirates.

Andrea Catto said that Flydubai is planning to launch regular flights that will be operated all year long. Moreover, the company is ready to offer also 60 connection flights.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, the main goal of this institution is to create best conditions on the national aeronautical market, so as to attract to Moldova as many companies as possible, which will provide quality air services at reasonable prices.    

As already reported by Infotag, the Hungarian-Polish low-cost air company Wizz Air announced about the launch of flights from Chisinau to Rome and Venice, starting from September 24, 2013.

In July 2008 the Government of Dubai established the airline. Although flydubai is not part of The Emirates Group, Emirates supported flydubai during the initial establishing phase. On July 14, 2008 flydubai signed a firm order with American aircraft manufacturer Boeing at the Farnborough Air Show for 50 Boeing 737-800s with a total value of US$3.74 billion, with the option to change the order to the longer range Boeing 737-900ER, according to the airline's demand. The first of these aircraft was delivered on May 17, 2009. Scheduled flights commenced on 1 June, with services to Beirut, Lebanon and Amman, Jordan. Since then, the route network has been significantly expanded.
