Shell wants to produce gas from depleted fields in Ukraine
Royal Dutch Shell wants to produce gas from depleted fields in Ukraine and those that were considered unpromising and ineffective.
Upstream International Director at Royal Dutch Shell Andy Brown said this at a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov in Amsterdam.
The meeting participants attended the presentation of the latest technologies, which help extract the remains of gas from the fields that were developed before, as well as from small fields, with the assistance of mobile systems that help reduce the costs during gas production by 50%, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"Of course, we are interested in using these advanced technologies in Ukraine. We are confident that they will produce a good result on our fields," Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said.
He recalled that Ukraine previously extracted up to 40 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year and added that there were the fields in the country on which gas production can be resumed.
"Let's start studying this issue in Ukraine," the Ukrainian premier said.
Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky, in turn, said that he had already received an instruction from the prime minister to prepare for the first experiment on one of the depleted gas fields, analyze the situation together with Royal Dutch Shell and report on the results of the analysis to the government.
"Advanced technologies that will be used by Shell make it possible to increase gas production by about 30-40% on the fields on which gas was and is mined," Stavytsky said.
