Transnistria dislikes draft of PACE resolution on Moldova

The ministry of foreign affairs of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic expressed concern about what it called “a biased approach” of the authors of the draft Resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on observing commitments by the Republic of Moldova. Namely, Tiraspol criticized document provisions infringing on Transnistria’s interests.

In its statement, the ministry expressed bewilderment with the attempt by some European parliamentarians to link the growth of tension between Chisinau and Tiraspol to “some unilateral decisions by de-facto authorities of the Transnistrian region”.

The foreign ministry believes that the politicized, unfounded accusations against one of the sides have never promoted progress in settling the Moldova-Transnistria relations – on the contrary, only provoked Tiraspol and Chisinau to a series of response defensive reactions that did not add warmth to the atmosphere of trust between the sides.

The Transnistrian foreign ministry believes that the document authors demonstrated their subjectivism and bias, “and they even did not bother to study the current state of things before sitting down to write their assessment”.

Tiraspol presumes that the draft PACE Resolution wrongfully touches on the questions of Russian troop withdrawal from the Transnistrian territory. Tiraspol also dislikes that the PACE attaches meticulous attention to human-right problems only in Transnistria, not in Moldova.

“International actors ought to make efforts aimed at approximation of the positions of the sides, instead of looking for separating elements. We believe the preparation of such kind of documents should be preceded by consultations between both sides of the conflict”, wrote the Transnistrian ministry of foreign affairs.
