Ukrainian government allocates UAH 105 m to eliminate consequences of floods in Odesa region

The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 104.77 million from the reserve fund of the state budget to eliminate the consequences of floods in Odesa region and provide compensation to the victims.

Such a decision was taken on Monday, according to the government portal.

"On September 16, 2013, Deputy Prime Minister Yuriy Boiko reported to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the work of a governmental commission at the scene of the disaster that occurred on September 12-14, 2013 in Odesa region. The government decided to allocate funds to tackle the consequences of flooding. The Cabinet of Ministers ordered the allocation of UAH 104.77 million to conduct immediate emergency and recovery operations and provide compensation to those affected by the natural disaster," reads the statement.

In particular, UAH 26.5 million was allocated to Odesa Regional State Administration to compensate for losses to the public and UAH 78.3 million was earmarked to Ukravtodor to repair the damaged and destroyed roads and dams.

As reported, heavy rain in Odesa region on September 12-14 caused the flooding of 399 homes and destroyed 35 homes, and 78 more homes are still under the threat of destruction. A total of 558 residents were evacuated from nine villages. The disaster destroyed railway tracks, washed out roads, and damaged a gas pipeline and power lines. The losses were preliminarily estimated at UAH 100 million.
