Ukraine to get gas along Adriatic corridor via Croatia, Hungary

Hungary and Croatia have completed negotiations regarding a project to create the Adriatic corridor for gas supplies to Ukrainian storage facilities, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky said following his visit to Brussels on Friday, according to Ukrinform's correspondent in Belgium.

"We have agreed all issues on the new route, I would say - the Adriatic-Hungarian-Ukrainian corridor - for the supply of natural gas from an LNG terminal on Kirk Peninsula (Croatia) through transport systems of Hungary to our gas storage facilities in Ukraine," the minister said.

He said that the signing of a declaration on the establishment of the Adriatic corridor will take place in Kyiv on November 5-6, at the level of the prime ministers of Ukraine, Hungary and Croatia.

Stavytsky noted that this is a powerful step towards diversification of energy supply routes and enhancing energy security of the whole Europe.

However, he did not specify the details of this stage of the project.

The minister also thanked European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger and other European partners for their support in implementing the project.
