EU to grant Ukraine $100 mln for energy efficiency projects

The European Union will provide financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of USD 100 million to implement energy saving projects by the end of this year. Ukraine also received a USD 130 million investment from the EU in the framework of implementation of energy efficiency projects.

Walter Tretton, Head of Operations Section “Energy, Transport and Environment” of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, said this at the opening ceremony of the VI International Trade Fair “Energy Efficiency. Renewable Energy 2013” in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"Ukraine has received from the EU a USD 130 million investment in energy efficiency projects, and another USD 100 million as grants from the European Union will come by the end of the year," Tretton said.

According to him, the EU plans to continue to work with Ukraine to implement energy efficiency projects.

In turn, Chairman of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Mykola Pashkevych, who came to the exhibition in the electric vehicle together with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Finland to Ukraine Arja Makkonen, noted the growth in demand for energy efficient technologies.

Pashkevych told reporters that electric cars are already being used as vehicles in Ukrainian corporations.
