Blocked ships in Ukrainian ports during the war: The port of Kherson

and the Institute of Black Sea Strategic Studies
The Monitoring Group of the Black Sea Institute of Strategic Studies and BlackSeaNews wishes to bring to your attention a new series of articles about the fate of ships that were in Ukrainian ports on 24 February 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of many regions of Ukraine.
As of 24 February 2022, in the seaport of Kherson (the Dnipro river, Kherson city), in addition to port fleet vessels permanently based in the city, there were 9 merchant ships taking on Ukrainian export cargo and 5 merchant ships under repair at ship repair enterprises (see Table 1). All of them have remained in Kherson under blockade.
All the ships (except those that had arrived for repairs at the shipyard and the ship repair plant) had arrived for loading in the port of Kherson just 1-2 days before the full-blown war started on 24 February 2022.

Thus, out of 14 vessels in the Kherson seaport, 7 belong to shipowners of Turkey, 3 - Ukraine, companies from Malta, Montenegro, Egypt, and the Marshall Islands own one ship each.
