Container transshipment via Ukrainian ports in the first six months of the year went down by 2.5%
Reports of the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure show that in January – June 2012 container ports of Ukraine curtailed their transshipment by 2.5% comparing with the same period of 2011– up to 0.35 million TEU.
Such recession was recorded both for the import and export cargo traffics. Imports, being quite strategic for the Ukrainian container terminals, went down by 1.8% - up to 176.8 thousand TEU.
Container transshipment in exports was decremented by 0.6%; however, the exports of loaded containers grew by 5%, reaching 73.5 thousand TEU. Such growth was mostly conditioned by the increase in containerization of grain carriers, brought out via the Ukrainian ports.
Odessabecame the leader among all ports of Ukraine, leaving its competitors far behind and transshipping more than 0.2 million TEU, which was 2% more than a year before. This growth was conditioned by the «Brooklyn-Kyiv Port» terminal, which raised its volumes by 11% (up to 69 thousand TEU). «HPC Ukraine Terminal», the volume leader in the Ukrainian waters, transshipped more than 68% from the total traffic of the port; however, this result is 1.6% lower than the last year volumes.
The transshipment via the Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk went down by 21% (up to 0.1 million TEU). A major part of this volume was ensured by ICT (“Illichivsk Container Terminal”, previously known as «Ukrtranscontainer») – an operating company and investor into the container terminal development, which returned to the port at the beginning of the year. Starting from February (when ICT re-commenced its work), the operator transshipped 82.5 thousand TEU.
The Sea Commercial Port of Mariupol, handling containers with all-round cranes, transshipped 5 thousand TEU – 3% lower result than a year before.
