U.S. pension fund wants to take part in constructing the Belene nuclear power plant
Energy expert professor Atanas Tasev told the press about possible investor, who had expressed desire to purchase the right to build nuclear power plant in Belene about 6-7 months ago.
The mysterious investor was a U.S. pension fund. At present, the possibility of transferring the right to build a nuclear power plant to the fund is being considered, including the issue of appropriate licenses. The fund promised to pay all current debts of the National Energy Company worth € 700 million.
In case of the favourable outcome of negotiations, the U.S. side will get 49% stake in the Belene NPP project, and Russia will have 51%. Atanas Tasev believes, this solution would be best for all parties involved.
