Plastic bags more expensive as of October 1

As of October 1 Bulgaria introduces an ecology fee on all plastic bags. The fee will be compulsory for all producers and importers.

It will go higher year on year to reach half a euro for each plastic bag. The aim of this step is to motivate customers use less of these bags as they are a major pollutant. However, business representatives find the fee too high and claim the measure would entail a growth in the gray economy.
