World Amateur Golf Championship starts in Turkey

The International Golf Federation has announced a major tournament to take place in Antalya in 2012. The World Amateur team championships will be held from the 27th of September to the 7th of October.

The Espirito Santo Trophy is for women and this tournament will take place between the 27th and 30th September on the new and old golf courses of the Gloria Golf Club.

The Eisenhower Trophy is for men and this will take place between the 4th and 7th of October on the PGA Sultan Course at the Antalya Golf Club and the Faldo course at the Cornelia Golf Club.

Official press release from the Turkish Gold federation is quoted as saying «This great success following the selection of Turkey as the "Best Golf Destination in Europe 2008" by IAGTO is an important indicator of world's appreciation for the dedicated efforts of Turkish Golf Federation, established in 1996 as one of the youngest federations in the world of golf as well as golf in Turkey that has made considerable progress in a very short time.

Some of the reasons for Turkey's selection as the country to host this important organization, among many others, are as follows; Turkey's experience in hosting international sports events, the fact that golf is the most rapidly developing sports branch, the increasing number of perfectly-designed golf courses, the selection of Turkey as the most rapidly developing golf country in Europe and our treasures of young population, cultural heritage and natural assets.»
