October 27 Moldova marks National Day of Greenery Planting

National Day of Greenery Planting will be held in all regions of the Republic of Moldova on October 27. This year central and local authorities will provide land for planting of more than 27 thousand trees in Chisinau and over 363 thousand - in the other populated localities of the country.

According to the Ministry of Environment, it is envisaged to develop forest plantations with the total forest land area of 775 hectares, and facilitate natural forest regeneration of ​​the 242 hectares area in the forestry enterprises. Besides, the 43 hectares’ expansion of the forest vegetation area is planned.

Once these activities used to be conducted on the first Saturday of April, but in 2011 the authorities made decision to move them to the last Saturday of October, as the autumnal agrotechnical period lasts longer than the spring one, and ensures more successful trees’ rooting.
