Moldovan-Cuban commercial-economic cooperation to boost up
Kiev-based Cuban Ambassador to Moldova Ernesto Senti Darias visited the Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) on 12 December, to study opportunities to boost up business partnerships between Cuba and Moldova.
The head of the CCI, Gheorghe Cucu informed the Cuban ambassador of the Moldovan chamber system and activities implemented by the CCI. «Unfortunately the Moldovan-Cuban trade turnover is rather small. In order to boost up Moldovan-Cuban business partnerships, I invite you to attend the National Exhibition «Made in Moldova», in Chisinau on 30 January-2 February.
Enterprises and organisations activating in all the Moldovan economic branches will exhibit their products at this exhibition. Also the CCI is planning to carry out an economic mission to Cuba in spring 2013. Moldovan businessmen are interested in collaborating with their Cuban partners in the tourism, sugar industry and transports sectors,» Cucu said.
For his part, Ernesto Senti Darias spoke about the investment opportunities Cuba offers, saying the tourism and pharmaceutical industry are priority sectors. «Pharmaceutical products produced in Cuba are known all over the world. Our pharmaceutical industry is highly developed, whereas large investments are made in this sector. We distribute medication in the CIS countries, and we have recently entered the Ukrainian market, planning to enter the Moldovan market as well in the near future. We cooperate with Ukrainian companies in the tourism sector, in order to open a direct flight to Cuba,» the ambassador said.
The Cuban ambassador said Cuba ranks third in the world for its nickel and cobalt deposits.
According to statistics, Moldova's trade turnover with Cuba amounted to 109.8 thousand dollars in January-September 2012, four per cent less against the same period in 2011.
