Moldovan Sport Press Association names best athletes of the year

The Executive Committee of the Moldovan Sport Press Association approved on December 18 the results of a poll carried out among the members of the association and meant to establish the best Moldovan athletes of 2012.

Moldovan Sport Press Association President, Vladimir Kolesnikov said that the bronze-winner of the London Olympic Games, weightlifter Anatoly Ciricu has become the best athlete of the year in the country.

«Another bronze-winner of the London Olympic Games, female athlete Cristina Iovu was chosen as the best sportswoman of the 2012 year. Hammer thrower Zalina Margieva ranks third in this top,» said Vladimir Kolesnikov.

The best Moldovan coaches of the year are Sergey Cretu and Maxim Cojocaru – trainers of Cristina Iovu. The coaches of Anatoly Ciricu, namely Ivan and Alexandr Bratan rank second.

The best team of 2012 was the handball team «Femina Sport.»

A record number of sports journalists (72 people) took part in the poll. As many as 42 athletes, 19 coaches and 20 teams were nominated this year.
